My DIY Jewelry Pin Board OR General Pin Board







Here is a my very simple pic-tutorial of how I made my jewelry board. Again, I don’t usually add too much instructions as the pictures explain the steps well enough.

By the way, you’ll notice that I added more of the diamante pin-tacks on the last picture just to hold the weight of the my jewelries, it started to sag a bit and also because the board I chose is quite large. I only hung a fraction of the my stash  so I might have to add more pin-tacks as I go or make more boards if I run out of room.

And you can also convert it as general pin board for your home-study/office room or kitchen.  Use baby wooden pegs to hang your photos, notes or recipes on the ribbon or just pin them to the board.

So, simply just chose your size of pin board, type of fabric and ribbon and cut to size allowing so some excess on the sides so you can staple on the back of the board.  Some decorative pin-tacks and organza bags for those awkward pieces you cannot hang…and ta-dah, done!

I can see my jewelry board evolving in time, I might glue a few artificial white flowers on the sides and maybe add some touches of pearls etc. And if fabric starts to get tatty, it’s easy enough to replace it with a fresh one.

My Warm Sticky Date Pudding And Coconut-Caramel Sauce
(Gluten-Free, Sugar-Free and almost guilt-free ;P).




For those who don't know me well in the kitchen or know my eating habits, I love using organic and healthy ingredients (e.g. super foods) as much as possible…and  I never keep any sugar in my pantry. So if you ever come for a  visit, expect to be served with a  healthier alternative if you have tea or coffee (e.g. honey, agave syrup, stevia).


And I can understand that buying organic goods are usually a little bit more pricey than the usual generics so you can still opt for non-organics as long as you follow the essential ingredients below. And I’m sure it’ll still taste great.


And expect your home to be filled with the delightful and sweet sweet smell of coconut-caramel & dates while it’s baking…..which one cannot complain about.; ;P


So here it is……


INGREDIENTS


1 cup organic buckwheat flour
1/4 cup organic coconut flour
2/3 cup of boiling hot water
1 teaspoon baking soda
3 tbsp organic chia seeds
1 teaspoon baking powder
15 dates, pits removed (soak 10 and the save the rest to add as tiny chunks into the final mixture)
1/4 cup chopped walnuts

4 tbsp organic agave syrup or honey
2 free-range eggs
50g butter
50g organic extra virgin coconut oil
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract


Coconut-Caramel Sauce
3 tbsp organic agave syrup or honey
160ml organic coconut cream
100g butter
1 tbsp nutmeg

1 tbsp cinnamon


Optional:
Naturally Sweetened Greek Yogurt


Instructions-


Step 1
Pre heat oven to 180C / 350F and line ramekins or foil mini cases , smear coconut oil or butter around the sides.


Step 2
Soak the chia seeds and pitted dates with the  baking soda and water for 5 minutes.


Step 3
Combine butter, coconut oil, agave syrup or honey and the chia & date mixture in a food processor and 15 sec until well combined.


Step 4
Pour eggs, vanilla extract, flours and baking powder and further process until well combined.


Step 5
Lastly slowly fold in the extra chopped dates  and walnuts to mixture.


Step 6
Spoon mixture evenly into the foil cases or ramekins and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown. Test by pricking the centre with a toothpick, if it comes out clean then it’s done. Allow to slightly cool down.


For the caramel sauce-


Step 1
Put butter, coconut cream, spices and agave syrup or honey into a  shallow pan.




Step 2
Allow to simmer and bubble lightly on medium heat for about 5-7 minutes until mixture has thickened but still runny, and color has darkened.




Step 3
Remove the pudding from ramekins or cases into a serving plate, slowly drizzle the warm coconut caramel on top. Serve a dollop of yogurt on the side.



Enjoy every bite with a nice cup of tea =D

My Yummy Organic Buckwheat Pancakes

This is one of my favorite delicious breakfast to whip up on the weekends. It keeps us energized especially when we're doing a lot of work on the house. And it's so simple to make.

Buckwheat is healthy, nutritious and full of protein. It's a great idea for you to do further research on its nutritional value. It really is an amazing seed.

I thought I'd share my recipe with you....and sorry I didn't add any of  my usual step by step photos. This one is really easy to follow.




Also here are just a few of the products I like to use for my pancakes




Ingredients

Pancake:
1 cup organic buckwheat flour
1 tsp organic baking powder
pinch of sea salt
1 tbs organic dark agave syrup
1 large free-range egg
1 1/4 cup almond milk
organic extra virgin coconut or olive oil for oiling skillet
1/2 tsp organic vanilla extract

Mixed Berry Coulis:
1 cup frozen mixed berries
squeeze of lemon juice
2 tbs organic honey or agave syrup

Optional toppings:
dollop of sweet greek yogurt
drizzle of nutella or dark choc chips

Instructions

Mix all dry ingredients  in a medium bowl. Then slowly add and mix in wet ingredients until batter is a nice consistency.

Oil skillet and fry on medium heat. Flip over until nice golden brown.

In a medium saucepan, simmer the mixed berry coulis until slightly caramelized. Pour over pancakes, a dollop of greek yogurt and optional: sprinkle dark choc chips or drizzle nutella.

Best to serve pancakes warm.

DIY Weekend Projects- Hanging a wallpaper & painting a concrete fireplace

It's been a while since I posted something up, that's only because I've been bed ridden recovering from a very nasty flu virus for the past 2 weeks... until now I still haven't quite shaken it off. I think it's all from the change of weather/season and also stress coming from all different directions my immune system hit the ground.

So there's been no progress on our renovations until the weekend that just past but I can proudly say we were  productive and we caught up with weekends we've lost. We were exhausted afterwards but it was worth seeing the outcome.

I was also able to squeeze in a few hours of gardening to soak up some vitamin D, turning the soil over and fertilizing some of our new plants just in time for the bloom in spring.




So Hubby, my Dad-inlaw, and I were able to finally put up the rolls of white and silver-grey striped wallpaper I purchased online 2 months ago. I would be lying if I said it was a fun process, if anything probably one of the most frustrating and painful 5 hours of our lives. It felt like it was never going to end, only because it was our first time to do it and to mention how delicate the wallpaper was (thin material and easily picks up dirty fingerprints)...argghh!...but nevertheless we learnt a lot from it and I think it should be easier second time around ;P. There are a few more walls I'd like to do around the house but not anytime soon.

Also I was able to paint the fireplace from a dirty blue I really despised... to a beautiful clean white to compliment the new feature wall. It really is amazing what difference a little amount of paint can make. And I can't wait when our new heat n glo flue gas fireplace gets installed just before next winter.  I can already imagine it...a movie night, lights all dimmed, crackling fireplace, a nice thick throw rug and a cup of hot cocoa and marshmallows. Ah...it's going to be a nice and toasty winter at home =D.

So here are photos of how we went with our weekend projects and some steps we took-

Hanging Striped Wallpaper



I didn't really write that much instructions as it's pretty straight forward. We just mixed up the wall paste and used a paint roller to apply it on the wall before putting up the wallpaper strip by strip.












Ta-dah!. 5 hours later



I put the flash on so you can see the metallic finish on the grey silver stripes. It's really pretty.





Painting Our Fireplace




First, I wiped the fireplace down really well with sugar soap, water and a cloth. I let it completely dry before  I used a wet sea sponge to stipple the white paint on the fireplace surface.

Here I used a glossy white paint of my choice
I applied 2 coats

The paint adhered really well onto the concrete surface
Ta-dah!!

to be continued...my addition to this would be the next project of laying new black tiles on top of the ugly orange and yellow floor tiles you can see on the pics above. Eventually we'll find the time to making a new mantle for it that looks something like this....

My Healthy Honey-Toasted Nut and Muesli






Today was a really stressful day but I was so glad to have found my new kitchen as my Zen and it was about time that I used my new smeg oven.

I also found too much packets of organic rolled oats and dry goods in my pantry and  so I decided to make a toasted muesli out of them, something like the ones they serve in one my fav cafe. I enjoyed making it and most especially after when it filled my home with delightful and delicious aromas of roasted honey, nuts and cinnamon.

Here is my recipe-

Ingredients:
5 cups organic rolled oats
2 cups mixed raw nuts (eg. almonds, cashews, walnuts, macadamia, brazilian nuts)
1/2 cup pumpkin seeds ( pepitas)
1/2 cup sunflower seeds
1 cup organic shredded coconut
3 tbs sesame seeds
3 tbs chia seeds
1 cup organic honey
5 tbs  organic extra virgin coconut oil
2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground nutmeg

Preparation:


-Mixed all dry ingredients well in a large mixing bowl.


-Combine oil, honey and spices in medium sauce pan. Place over stove on low heat and gently stir until mixture is melted and lightly caramelized. Remove from stove and allow to cool.


-Gradually pour over dry mixture tossing slowly with a  wooden spatula until all is well coated and combined .

-Spread evenly onto a baking tray covered with baking paper. 


-Heat oven 160C and bake for 30 mins, mixing every 15 mins until golden brown and crisp.


-Once cooled, toss to combine muesli well and store in airtight container.


-Serve with a dollop of Greek yogurt and slices of your choice of fruit. 

Prep time: 10 mins
Cook time:30 mins
